Guernsey Eisteddfod 2024

Music Eisteddfod

Friday 1st March the Le Rondin singers took to the stage and wowed the audience in the music section of the Guernsey Eisteddfod. Our singers learnt two songs ‘Hey Mr Miller’ and ‘Count one Me’ and performed these with Signalong.

Elizabeth Hayley, the adjudicator for the festival said the following:

1. Mr Miller

I loved the exuberance in your rendition of Mr Miller, you projected the words really well - great smiley face and the actions were great fun!

2. Count on me

This was such a lovely contrast, and you concentrated really hard to make sure words & actions matched

Keep singing nice and steady and thank you for performing for us to day. Well done!

The adjudicator was blown away with our stage presence and clarity and the Le Rondin Singers were awarded a distinction mark of 87. Everyone should be incredibly proud of their efforts

Art Eisteddfod

The theme for our Eisteddfod this year was Abstract Art. Each wing focused on a different artist to explore their unique style.

East wing delved into the incredible work of Paul Klee, specifically his masterpiece 'Castle and Sun'. By studying the shapes and colours used in his artwork, we were able to recreate this artwork.

South wing drew inspiration from the iconic Jackson Pollock and his piece 'Convergence'. Through our exploration, we learned about the distinction between abstract and figurative art. It was an enjoyable experience for South wing to recreate Pollock's expressive and dynamic artwork.

In West wing, we went on a journey through the artistic world of Picasso. Drawing inspiration from his famous quote, "Every child is an artist," we designed our own Picasso-esque 'face'. By experimenting with different angles and placing facial features creatively, we aimed to capture the essence of Picasso's unique style.

Lastly, our specialist bases dedicated their time creating captivating a sculpture using playdough, taking inspiration from the artist Jeff Koons. Through this hands-on experience, we learned about Koons' style.
